The senses come alive in Charlevoix with sound resonating strong in Saint-Irenee. Located on Highway 362, this cliff-top hamlet is famous for the Domaine Forget, a music centre showcasing talented musicians and its international music festival featuring classical and jazz performances. Access to the Domaine is via the country road, Saint-Antoine which also provides a panoramic view of the area. The Francoys-Bernier Concert Hall is located at the centre and is renowned for its acoustics and size, housing over 600 guests. Other attractions include Saint-Irenee's setting itself, where the St. Lawrence River and mountains line the roadways and visitors can stroll along the sandy beach. The diverse Charlevoix region showcases a varied landscape and natural phenomena including meteoric craters, glacial valleys, semi-arctic ecosystems and breathtaking capes overlooking the river and islands. Activities in the area include caplin fishing from mid-May to mid-June as well as smelt fishing on the pier. Visit the art galleries and workshops of local artists such as Ateliers DeBlois, specializing in pottery, or tour the Church of Saint-Irenee, which was also the backdrop for the Quebec television series “Le Temps d'une paix.” Saint-Irenee was named one of the most beautiful villages by the Association des Plus Beaux Villages du Quebec and a visit here will leave a lasting impression.
